Big Stax 1000 (Day 3): Chop It Up

Players have agreed to chop up the tournament (ICM), and once the numbers are run and verified we will bring you the final results.

*** This process eight-way does take some time, so please be patient when waiting for results.

Big Stax 1000 (Day 3): Back From Dinner

Players have returned from dinner and are ready to post blinds of 40,000/80,000/10,000.

Big Stax 1000 (Day 3): Dinner Rescheduled

Players have agreed to change the dinner break, and decided to take a (60) minute dinner right now.  Players will return at 7:45pm to continue playing.  Our live coverage will resume then.

Big Stax 1000 (Day 3): Break/Updated Chip Counts

Players are going on a (10) minute break and will return to play Level 27 before heading to dinner.  We haven't lost a player in over 2.5 hours, but the chips have definitely shifted.  When players return from the break, the blinds in Level 27 will be 40,000/80,000/10,000.  Here are the up to the moment chip counts:

  1. David Kim - 3,500,000
  2. Adam Levitan - 3,100,000
  3. David Inselberg - 1,800,000
  4. Thomas Paul - 3,200,000
  5. Sahal Siraj - 1,300,000
  6. Jeff Gross - 1,200,000
  7. Jack Duong - 2,000,000
  8. Charles Urrutia - 3,600,000

Big Stax 1000 (Day 3): Big Stax IV Coming In October!!

Level 26 - Blinds 30,000/60,000/10,000 (Chip Average: 2,500,000)
Players Remaining: 8

As we are focused on the final table (on the final day) of this series, it's time to mention that Big Stax IV is right around the corner!!  The series will take place in October, and the schedule and exact dates will be announced shortly after the conclusion of this series.

Big Stax 1000 (Day 3): Tables Are Turning

Level 26 - Blinds 30,000/60,000/10,000 (Chip Average: 2,500,000)
Players Remaining: 8

We are seeing a complete role reversal right now, as the players that once looked like they had one foot out the door are currently leading the pack.  Charles Urrutia (3,200,000) and David Kim (3,000,000) are leading the way, while Adam Levitan (1,800,000) and Sahal Siraj (1,700,000) are sinking towards the bottom.

The discussion of chop continues, but so does the play.

Big Stax 1000 (Day 3): The Talk Has Started

Level 26 - Blinds 30,000/60,000/10,000
Players Remaining: 8

The rumblings of a chop began once players took their seats back from break, and it seemed as if the majority were ready to talk.  The players then decided to play until dinner break and revisit once they've reached that moment (after Level 27).

Big Stax 1000 (Day 3): Break/Updated Chip Counts

Players are on a (10) minute break and will return to blinds of 30,000/60,000/10,000 (Chip Average: 2,600,000).  Here are the up to the minute counts:

  1. David Kim - 3,500,000
  2. Adam Levitan - 2,400,000
  3. Dave Inselberg - 2,700,000
  4. Thomas Paul - 1,600,000
  5. Sahal Siraj - 2,400,000
  6. Jeff Gross - 2,500,000
  7. Jack Duong - 2,600,000
  8. Charles Urrutia - 2,600,000

Big Stax 1000 (Day 3): Where They Stand

Level 25 - Blinds 20,000/40,000/5,000
Players Remaining: 8

We are two thirds of the way through Level 25, and the landscape has changed slightly.  The two top stacks at the final table belong to Dave Inselberg (3,300,000) and Sahal Siraj (3,400,000).  The two shortest stacks are the names that have been there before: Charles Urrutia (1,600,000) and Thomas Paul (1,900,000).

Big Stax 1000 (Day 3): Levitan Losing Ground

Level 25 - Blinds 20,000/40,000/5,000
Players Remaining: 8

Adam Levitan (Philadephia, PA) came into today with a pretty solid chip lead, but has steadily declined each level.  He had the big hand where he doubled up Thomas Paul which cost him close to 1,000,000, but he still had over 4,000,000 on both breaks.  Levitan now has 2,400,000 in front of him, which is right around the chip average.  His table demeanor gives off slight frustration, but he's an experienced player who would not likely let this phase him.

Big Stax 1000 (Day 3): 9th Place - Sarmiento ($7,769)

Level 25 - Blinds 20,000/40,000/5,000
Players Remaining: 8

Steven Sarmiento (Queens, NY)
9th Place - $7,769

Steven Sarmiento (Queens, NY) opened the pot for 100,000, and was three-bet by David Kim to 240,000.  With the action back on him, Sarmiento shoved for 1,300,000 and was called by Kim.  It was the 9 9 of Sarmiento against Kim's A K.  Kim would hit the dream flop of 10 J Q, and after the 8 on the turn, Sarmiento would be drawing dead.

David Kim now chips up to 3,100,000 and is one of the top three stacks.

Big Stax 1000 (Day 3): Slow Start

Level 25 - Blinds 20,000/40,000/5,000
Players Remaining: 9

The play is super deep at this final table, and to say that things started off slowly would be an understatement.  Coming back from break we've seen a few big pots, with Thomas Paul check raised the flop in a multi way  pot with Levitan and Inselberg (winning the pot and chipping up to 1,600,000).

Kim and Siraj got involved in a pot, with Sahal check-calling David's river bet, and Kim immediately telling Siraj he was good.  Kim drops down to 1,600,000.

Big Stax 1000 (Day 3): Break Time/Updated Chip Counts

Players are going on a (10) minute break and will return to Level 25 and blinds of 20,000/40,000/5,000.  Here is an updated chip count from break:

  1. David Kim - 2,200,000
  2. Adam Levitan - 3,400,000
  3. Dave Inselberg - 3,100,000
  4. Thomas Paul - 1,200,000
  5. Sahal Siraj - 2,500,000
  6. Jeff Gross - 1,800,000
  7. Steven Sarmiento - 1,900,000
  8. Jack Duong - 1,800,000
  9. Charles Urrutia - 1,700,000

Big Stax 1000 (Day 3): Urrutia Doubles

Level 24 - Blinds 15,000/30,000/5,000
Players Remaining: 9

Thomas Paul wouldn't hold onto his newfound chips for long, as he would double up short stack Charles Urrutia right afterwards.  Urrutia rivered trips (playing the suited two gapper), and Paul would pay him off on the river.

Big Stax 1000 (Day 3): Paul Doubles

Level 24 - Blinds 15,000/30,000/5,000
Players Remaining: 9

Only a few hands before break, we had a big hand between Thomas Paul and Adam Levitan.  Paul had flatted Adam's raise pre, and they saw a flop of 10 8 5.  Levitan fired out a bet, Paul raised him, and Adam then went all-in (putting Paul all-in).  Thomas had some choice words when he heard Levitan go all-in, and made the call before showing the second nuts (K Q).  Levitan had K K and would need to go runner full house in order to win the hand.  It didn't happen and Thomas Paul would find himself a full double.

Adam Levitan - 3,400,000
Thomas Paul - 1,900,000

Big Stax 1000 (Day 3): Jeff Gross Trending

Level 24 - Blinds 15,000/30,000/5,000
Players Remaining: 9

Jeff Gross (Wall, NJ) started the day with just under 2,000,000, but began to drop down throughout the first few hours.  He just picked up a nice pot against Steven Sarmiento with aces up, and got value on the river.  Gross is now back over 2,200,000, while it's Sarmiento who's going the other way.

Big Stax 1000 (Day 3): The New Shortie

Level 24 - Blinds 15,000/30,000/5,000
Players Remaining: 9

Jack Duong knocked out Coniff to pick up another 400,000, bringing his total to 1,200,000.  He's since gone on to win two more pots of nice size, and has over 1,700,000.  The new short stack at the table is Charles Urrutia, who has been the least active player in the first two hours of the day.   He is sitting on a stack of 1,100,000, with Thomas Paul sitting just above that number.

Big Stax 1000 (Day 3): 10th Place - Coniff ($5,837)

Level 24 - Blinds 15,000/30,000/5,000
Players Remaining: 9

Asher Coniff (Brooklyn, NY)
10th Place - $5,837

We walked over to the table to see an all-in situation pre between short stack's Asher Coniff and Jack Duong.  Coniff was down to 400,000, and had pocket sevens against the A K of Duong.  Jack would spike a king on the flop, and Asher would have to hit one of the two sevens remaining, or go runner straight.  The turn failed to bring any extra outs, and he couldn't hit a two-outer, going home in 10th place and collecting $5,837.

Jack Duong - 1,200,000

Asher Coniff - Eliminated

Big Stax 1000 (Day 3): The Short Stacks

Level 24 - Blinds 15,000/30,000/5,000 (Chip Average: 2,100,000)

The short stacks right now would be the players under 1,000,000, but that's still over 30 big blinds, so the effectively not that short at all.  Those players are currently:

Thomas Paul - 900,000 (30 BB)
Jack Duong - 800,000 (27 BB)
Asher Coniff - 450,000 (15 BB)

Big Stax 1000 (Day 3): Asher Drops Down

Level 24 - Blinds 15,000/30,000/5,000 (Chip Average: 2,100,000)

On a board of 5 4 Jx 5x, Asher Coniff check-calls Levitan's 150,000 turn bet.  The river brings the 7 and Coniff fires out a bet of 280,000, to which Levitan calls.  Asher tells Adam "You got it," and turns over A 4.  Adam tables 8 3 for the flush, and goes over 5,000,000.

Adam Levitan - 5,400,000

Asher Coniff - 600,000

Big Stax 1000 (Day 3): Break/Chip Counts

Players are going on a quick (10) minute break while the floor colors off the orange (1,000) chips.  The first half hour of play has been very serious, much less table talk between players than last night.  The excitement of reaching the final table has worn off, and the players only have one goal in mind now.  When they return to Level 24 the blinds will be increasing to 15,000/30,000/5,000.  Here are the chip counts going into break:

  1. David Kim - 1,600,000
  2. Adam Levitan - 4,500,000
  3. Dave Inselberg - 2,200,000
  4. Asher Coniff - 1,100,000
  5. Thomas Paul - 500,000
  6. Sahal Siraj - 3,500,000
  7. Jeff Gross - 1,700,000
  8. Steve Sarmiento - 2,400,000
  9. Jack Duong - 1,000,000
  10. Charles Urrutia - 1,500,000

Big Stax 1000 (Day 3): Live Updates Thread (REFRESH FOR UPDATES)

1:00pm: Players are still taking their seats and will begin play shortly.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

11:04am: Players will return to the main poker room at 1:00pm, and continue play with 32:37 left in Level 23 (blinds 12,000/24,000/4,000).  The stacks are super deep, which leaves a lot of play left today.  You can follow all of the live action today, and we look forward to a great day of poker.

Players will be returning to finish the final table tomorrow at 1:00pm.  Here are the chip counts and seating assignments (when players return there will be 32:37 left in Level 23):

Final Table:

  1. David Kim - 1,820,000
  2. Adam Levitan - 4,960,000
  3. David Inselberg - 2,250,000
  4. Asher Coniff - 1,240,000

  10. Charles Urrutia - 1,803,000

2:20am:

Oscar Castagna
11th Place - $5,837
Asher Coniff opened the pot for 50,000 and was called by Sarji on button.  Dave Inselberg made it 250,000 from the small blind, and Castagna went all-in for 700,000 from the big blind.  The action folded back around to Inselberg who made the call:

Inselberg: A Q               Castagna: A K

Flop: Q 8 7

Turn: 6

River: 4

Oscar is eliminated in eleventh place, while Inselberg chips up to ~ 1,900,000.  Players are now bagging their chips, and will return TOMORROW AT 1:00PM.

We will post final table chip counts shortly.

2:17am:  Thomas Paul is now the short stack of the eleven players remaining, sitting under 500,000.  He still has 20 big blinds, so things aren't dire at the moment, but playing five handed the blinds come around quick.

2:06am:

Jenn Sherwood (Newport News, VA)
12th Place - $5,837

Jenn found herself very short (with 350,000), and shoved UTG for her remaining chips.  Steve Sarmiento was next to act and he also announced himself all-in (1,600,000).  The action folded around and it was the 10 10 of Sherwood against the Q Q of Sarmiento.  Steve would turn a queen to have Sherwood drawing dead, and she exits as the last lady, and $5,837 richer.

We will finish out the remaining 44 minutes, or stop play once another player busts.

2:03am: Jeff Gross opens the pot for 60,000 UTG and is called by Sherwood and Sarmiento.  The flop comes out 8 6 2 and Gross bets out 125,000.  Sherwood folds and Sarmiento calls from the button.  The board pairs with an 8 on the turn, and Gross now checks to Steve, who bets out 155,000.  After the 9 on the river both players check, and Gross shows Q Q for the win.  Gross is now up to 1,750,000.

1:49am:

Chip Leader Adam Levitan

Blinds are currently 12,000/24,000/4,000, and with 12 players remaining the chip average is 1,800,000.  Chip leader Adam Levitan has over 200 big blinds (5,000,000), and continues to build.

1:29am: Thomas Paul is now the short stack of the remaining players with 600,000, after calling a river bet from David Kim (and seeing Kim's full house).

David Kim - 2,100,000
Thomas Paul - 600,000

1:19am: Updated chip counts:

  4. Jenn Sherwood - 600,000
  5. Steve Sarmiento - 2,500,000
  6. Thomas Paul - 1,400,000

1:10am:

Chad Jackson (Walton, NY)
13th Place - $4,831

1:08 am:  ****As we are experiencing tech issues with Blogger, we will use this one post as a constant update for the rest of the night.  Please refresh the updates page periodically to see updated reports.  It's 1:08am, and players will be going on break.  They will return to play Level 23, which if we don't reach the final table, is the last level of the night.****

Here are the updated chip counts of the remaining thirteen players:

Table 46:

  1. Adam Levitan - 3,300,000
  2. Jeff Gross - 1,500,000
  3. Dave Kim - 1,400,000
  4. Jenn Sherwood - 800,000
  5. Chad Jackson - 900,000
  6. Steve Sarmiento - 2,300,000
  7. Thomas Paul - 950,000
Table 45:

  5. Asher Coniff - 1,600,000
  6. Charles Urrutia - 1,500,000

Big Stax 1000 (Day 2): 14th Place - Schultz

Level 22 - Blinds 10,000/20,000/3,000 (Chip Average: 1,600,000)
Players Remaining: 13

Allison Schultz (New York, NY)
14th Place - $4,831

Allison had been short the entire day, and from the time we were down to about 60 players, it's quite possible she never went above the chip average.  She remained the short stack from dinner on, and got her last 120,000 in with A 7 against the A K of Sahal Sarji who three-bet to isolate.  The board ran out clean for Sarji, and Allison would take home $4,831.

Sunday, August 18, 2013

Big Stax 1000 (Day 2): 15th Place - Silberstein ($4,831)

Level 22 - Blinds 10,000/20,000/3,000 (Chip Average: 1,500,000)
Players Remaining: 14

Ken Silberstein (Edison, NJ)
15th Place - $4,831

Big Stax 1000 (Day 2): Break Time

Players are going on a (10) minute break, and will return to Level 22 and blinds of 10,000/20,000/3,000.  Play will continue through Level 23 or the final table, whichever the players reach first.

Big Stax 1000 (Day 2): No Action

Level 21 - Blinds 8,000/16,000/2,000 (Chip Average: 1,400,000)
Players Remaining: 15

As expected, the play has really slowed down, with the chip average currently sitting at 85 big blinds.  There is a ton of play remaining, and with only one true short stack (Allison Schultz), we be hard pressed to see anything picking up in the near future.

Big Stax 1000 (Day 2): 16th-18th Places ($4,227)

The following players have cashed for $4,227:

16. Eric Siegel (Melville, NJ)
17. Steven Tabb (Newtown, MA)
18. Nicholas Peticca (Wallingford, PA)

Big Stax 1000 (Day 2): 16th Place - Siegel ($4,227)

Level 21 - Blinds 8,000/16,000/2,000 (Chip Average: 1,383,000)
Players Remaining: 15

Eric Siegel (Melville, NJ)
16th Place - $4,227

Big Stax 1000 (Day 2): 17th - Tabb ($4,227)

Level 21 - Blinds 8,000/16,000/2,000 (Chip Average: 1,300,000)
Players Remaining: 16

Steven Tabb (Newton, MA)

Steven Tabb (Newton, MA) is eliminated in 17th place as he runs his A K into the A A of Oscar Castagna.  Tabb would be drawing dead on the turn, but he will be collecting $4,227 for his finish.

Castagna is now up to 1,700,000 and has recovered nicely since losing that massive pot to Adam Levitan prior to the redraw.

Big Stax 1000 (Day 2): Back From Break

Players are back from break and are posting blinds of 8,000/16,000/2,000 in Level 21.  The chip average amongst the remaining 17 players is 1,200,000.

21. Jeff Gottesman (Huntington Valley, PA)

Big Stax 1000 (Day 2): Massive Pot

Level 20 - Blinds 6,000/12,000/2,000 (Chip Average: 1,000,000)
Players Remaining: 20

Levitan (Left) Watches His Stack Counted Out

There were three players standing at Table 47, so it was clear something big was going down.  The hand was already over when we arrived, but we got the replay for you:

Adam Levitan opens from the button to 30,000.  Oscar Castagna three bets to 60,000.  Levitan four-bets to 200,000 and it called by Oscar.  The flop runs out K 6 5, and Castagna checks to Adam, who fired out a bet of 240,000.  Oscar check raises to 600,000, and Levitan shoves for 1,200,000.  Castagna makes the call and the hands are tabled:

Levitan: A K          Castagna: A♠ 5

Flop: K♠ 7♠ 5♠

Turn: 8x

River: 6x

It's a pretty crazy pot between two of the larger stacks in the room, and Adam Levitan takes a commanding chip lead with over 3,000,000.

Big Stax 1000 (Day 2): 22nd-24th Places ($3,301)

Level 20 - Blinds 6,000/12,000/2,000 (Chip Average: 902,000)
Players Remaining: 23

Jonas Wexler (Southhampton, PA) would of been the last person you would of thought to get this far at the start of the day.  He came into the day the shortest of 110 players, and emptied three big blinds out of his bad (18,500).  Jonas built his stack up to 1,300,000 amazingly, but trended steadily downward right before and then after dinner.  He finishes in 24th place for $3,301, which means we will definitely have a new Big Stax Main Event champion.   It really was something special to watch happen as it unfolded, but this was where to story ended.

Big Stax 1000 (Day 2): Childs & Siegel Double

Level 20 - Blinds 6,000/12,000/2,000 (Chip Average: 741,000)
Players Remaining: 28

Both Lee Childs and Eric Siegel were super short, but both players have now doubles.  Childs doubles to 225,000, while Eric's pocket jacks held up against A Q, and he's up to 250,000.  They have some work to do to get back into the mix, but they have to start somewhere.

Rocco Luciano (Philadelphia, PA) has been eliminated after being crippled in the hand with Dave Inselberg.

Big Stax 1000 (Day 2): Back In Action

Level 20 - Blinds 6,000/12,000/2,000 (Chip Average: 691,000)
Players Remaining: 30

Players are now back from dinner, and after we lose three more players the tournament floor will redraw the final 27 players.

Big Stax 1000 (Day 2): Rocco Gets Stoned

Dave Inselberg

Only one hand prior to break, we had a massive pot between Rocco Luciano and Dave Inselberg.  Rocco had opened the pot and Inselberg called out of the big blind.  They went the flop:

Flop:  7 8 K♣

Dave checked raised Rocco flop bet all-in (Inselberg had 600,000 behind, while Rocco had him covered slightly).  Rocco made the call fairly quickly and the hands were turned over:

Rocco: J 10             Inselberg: Ax Kx

Turn: 6x

River: 7x

Rocco would be crippled as he misses his combo draw, left with only 60,000.  Dave is now up to 1,300,000, and dinner might taste a little better now.

Big Stax 1000 (Day 2): Dinner Time

The remaining 34 players are about to head to dinner, with Thomas Paul (Jupiter, FL) leading the way. Paul has over 1,800,000 (180 bigs at this level), with Steve Sarmiento on his heels (1,600,000).  When they players return the blinds will be 6,000/12,000/2,000, which should be somewhere close to 7:45pm.

Big Stax 1000 (Day 2): Top 5 Stacks

Level 19 - Blinds 5,000/10,000/1,000 (Chip Average: 576,000)
Players Remaining: 36

Here are the five top stacks of the players remaining:

Thomas Paul - 1,700,000
Salah Siraj - 1,300,000
Steve Sarmiento - 1,300,000
Asher Coniff - 1,200,000
Oscar Castagna - 1,100,000

Big Stax 1000 (Day 2): 37th-45th Places ($2,093)

The following players have cashed for $2,093:

37. Thomas O'Connor (Levitown, PA)
38. Kris Gmerek (Midland Park, NJ)
39. Frank Ferrigno (Wayne, PA)
40. Dennis Lisovskiy (Holland, PA)
41. Aaron Schaff (East Brunswick, NJ)
42. Kastyantyn Tsygikal (Toronto, CA)
43. Anthony Garofalo (Philadelphia, PA)
44. Joe Cappuccio (Hamilton, NJ)
45. Adam LaGreca (Hillsborough, NJ)

Big Stax 1000 (Day 2): Shorties Double

Level 19 - Blinds 5,000/10,000/1,000 (Chip Average: 532,000)
Players Remaining: 39

There are a handful of players who have short stacks, two of which were on that list until doubling.  Allison Schultz got a full triple-up (but still has less than 200,000), and Joe Wertz's Q 10 trumped the pocket sevens of Oscar Castagna to double over 340,000.

Big Stax 1000 (Day 2): Break Time

Players are going to be heading on break, and will return to Level 18 with blinds of 5,000/10,000/1,000.  The remaining players that do come back from break with finish the level and head out on a (75) minute dinner break.

Today's action will play down to the final table (or) the end of Level 23 (whichever comes first).

Big Stax 1000 (Day 2): In The Money

As it happened in the Big Stax 500, we are in the money without hand for hand play!!  As we were posting Matt Glantz's elimination, the floor began to break Table 50, and the announcement was made that the players are now in the money.  We do know that one of the players who bubbled was Stephanie Hubbard:

Big Stax 1000 (Day 2): Glantz Eliminated

Level 18 - Blinds 4,000/8,000/1,000 (Chip Average: 442,000)
Players Remaining: 47

Players are now going hand for hand after the elimination of Matt Glantz.  On a 6 7 8 flop, Asher Coniff raised Glantz's original bet (~18,000 to ~40,000).  The board paired with an 8 on the turn, and Glantz check raised all-in after Asher's 49,000 turn bet.  Asher called pretty quickly, and the hands were tabled:

Flop: 6 7 8

Turn: 8

Glantz: 10 8        Coniff: 9 10

River: A

Coniff is now up to 1,200,000.

Big Stax 1000 (Day 2): Wexler The Magician

Level 18 - Blinds 4,000/8,000/1,000 (Chip Average: 423,000)
Players Remaining: 49

Jonas Wexler

We hear stories about a chip and a chair all the time, and these things do happen occasionally.  It's different when you actually witness the magic happen.  Jonas Wexler (Southhampton, PA) came into the day with 18,500 when the blinds were 2,500/5,000 (3 big blinds).  Wexler is now sitting on over 800,000, and it top ten in the room.

Big Stax 1000 (Day 2): Liberto Bounced

Level 18 - Blinds 4,000/8,000/1,000 (Chip Average: 423,000)
Players Remaining: 49

Justin Liberto (Philadelphia, PA) has gone from one of the chip leaders to out of the tournament.  The hand that he mucked and would of won dropped him to 700,000, and then he played a big pot with Salah Siraj (West Orange, NJ) and lost.  Liberto's final hand would be against Siraj as well, as the hand started with Liberto flatting Siraj's open on the button.  The flop came out 10♠ 7 4, and after Siraj led out, Liberto raised.  Siraj three-bet all-in (having Justin covered) and Liberto called:

Liberto: 7 4        Siraj: A J

Flop: 10♠ 7 4

Turn: 10

River: x

Siraj is now over 1,000,000 and is sitting comfortably as we sit on the money bubble (49 players remaining).

Big Stax 1000 (Day 2): McKheehen Busts

Level 18 - Blinds 4,000/8,000/1,000 (Chip Average: 404,000)
Players Remaining: 51

Joseph McKeehen will not be making another deep run, as he's eliminated six shy of the money.  His open shove for 129,000 was called in two spots, one of which was Thomas Paul, who would win the pot and pad his chip lead (1,500,000).
